SoChick QAL {Anchors Aweigh: Completed Top & Craftsy.com Giveaway!}

Pin It
Finally, the last post of the 1st Annual SoChick Quilt Along, featuring Anchors Aweigh by Tula Pink!  I can not thank you all enough for not only joining me in my first QAL, but for being patient with me as this QAL collided with my family relocating from Coastal NC to the Mountains of Western NC (with a few bumps and a dead computer hard-drive in between)!

{Joining Rows to Complete Your Top}
If you haven't had a chance to join your rows, I hope that these few iPhone pictures will give you an idea of how I did it.  It's important to note, when joining the rows, that you do not need space large enough for the entire quilt top to be laid out... a narrow, flat surface, should suffice.  I was able to piece my entire top behind my living room sofa, where I had enough room width-wise (from quilt side to side) and about 3-4ft of space for adding rows.

 When joining the rows, and because I was working in a narrow space, I joined them in pairs of two, working in towards the middle of the quilt, then attached in the middle.  (So I joined Rows 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, 7&8; then joined the pairs so that Rows 1-4 and Rows 5-8 were my final sections, finishing by joining at Row 4 & 5)  I hope that makes sense.  Because I was working in a narrow space, as I joined rows I simply rolled the quilt as I went.  You can see in the photo below that the Wrong Side is where I've rolled up and the Right Side is where I will add the next set of Rows.

When joining the rows, I roughly laid them out with right sides together; then, starting from the middle of the rows, lined up and pinned my seams moving out towards the sides. When pinning the solid fabrics, be careful not to stretch the fabrics so as not to distort the quilt top.  There is less stretching at the piecing due to the seams reinforcing the fabrics, but it's easy to get carried away with stretching/smoothing once you get to the solid fabric... so just keep that in mind *wink*.

I also pressed/starched my long seams as I sewed them; once I was finished with the top, I went through with a good steam  press over the entire piece.  I am so impressed with this quilt and the fact that I was able to complete it with everything else going on!  I feel like it was easy to sew, it was just a matter of staying organized throughout the process.

I plan to quilt this on my home sewing machine, hopefully while we are here in our temporary apartment.  I've learned a lot from the Craftsy Lesson: Quilting Large Projects on a Small Machine... so I will put that knowledge to the test.  Are you ready for your chance to Win this same lesson, for FREE?!

{The Giveaway}

{The Prize}

Craftsy.com has been so super generous to sponsor my 1st Annual SoChick Quilt Along by offering a Free Lesson to one lucky winner! Busy Times Ahead {Gymnastics, a Birthday, Fabric, Shopping}

Pin It
I really need to get back into the blogging groove...

My biggest little chick is turning 9 years old tomorrow (May 18th).  We have a busy weekend planned with the school's spring fest, her Gymnastics showcase, and Shopping at "The Big Mall" for her birthday... whew!

I can not believe it's been 9 years since our chick-a-dee came into our lives, five and a half weeks before her due date, our little 4lb 14 oz burrito.  Always the little one, always big on personality... Seriously, the tears well up when I think about it... ugh, she's in double digits next year... holy crap!

From our trip to the UGA Gym Dogs meet (Vs. NCState) in March
Um, ya don't go to Athens without eating at the Varsity.

I am so overwhelmingly proud of my little girl.  She is an excellent student, a Girl Scout and a gymnast... her most recent accomplishment is being invited to join the Compulsory team at her gym.  I'm becoming a Gymnastics Mom.  At her request. Because she loves it. So, the 12.5hr/week practice starts on Memorial Day. A new adventure on the road of life.

To celebrate, I'm giving away a free Fat Quarter with every Fabric purchase of $25 or more, May 18th - May 20th.  All US orders over $10 ship via USPS Priority for $5, always!

Simply leave a "Note to Seller" at checkout telling me which fabric you'd like a FQ of, and I'll include it in your qualifying purchase.

Also, don't forget about this Sewing Pattern Sale/GiveAway opportunity which is going on through Memorial Day... only 20 Patterns to go!  Will I meet my goal of 25 sold by Memorial Day? Will you help me?

Have a super wonderful weekend!

P.S.- In between birthday festivities, you can find me catching up on Spring Quilt Market via twitter... you can follow along, too, with hash tag #quiltmarket... woot!

It's Fabric Time! {Shop's Open, a Sale and a GiveAway!}

Pin It
I am SO excited to tell you that the SoChick! Shop is up and running, with lots of pretty fabric!

When I started my little handbag business back in 2010, I knew that one day I wanted to sell the beautifully-fresh, and modern, premium quilting fabrics that got me hooked on bag making and sewing... I also knew that I wanted to one day put my designs into sewing patterns to encourage and show others that you can create beautiful, professional-looking items in your own home, with your own two hands... and sewing machine. *wink*

I happened upon Amy Butler's beautiful fabrics when I started my addiction in 2008.  Since her fabric, and fabrics similar to her's, are not available in my area, I took to ordering online.  Over time I learned what fabric I loved and couldn't be without.  While Wildflowers in Navy, from Amy's Daisy Chain collection, is my all-time favorite print, I knew when her Soul Blossoms Collection was released that I was hooked for serious

So, it's not really a surprise that, when the opportunity arose, I choose some of my favorite prints from Soul Blossoms to start my fabric shop journey.  I love the pinks and oranges, and the greens and aquas, found in these prints.  Plus, their versatility is where it's at... I believe Amy calls the colorways of Soul Blossoms a "Treasure box palette", because all of the colorways work so well together!

In my SoChick! Shop you will find fabric, fat quarter pairings and bag making kits (for my sewing patterns).  My Sewing Patterns are available in my Craftsy Pattern Shop, as PDF downloads... don't worry, I was sure to offer the link to my pattern shop under "Sewing Patterns":

There are several more fabric collections that I hope to add to the shop in the future, but this is where my fabric-loving-heart told me to start...  I hope you will love these fabrics as much as I do and see that you, "Everyday chicks", can create beautiful "Everyday Chic" items in your home, too!

Okay, okay, ready for this Sale/GiveAway?!

The Sale:
You may already know that my first Sewing Pattern: The SoChick! Market Tote is on Sale for $6... and if you don't know, now you know. *grin*.

Because I know you will love sewing this bag, and that you will come away from this pattern with new skills & inspiration, I am going to keep this pattern at the $6.00 Sale Price through Memorial Day!  A super great deal for a Sewing Pattern that you can download instantly, as a PDF file, has full-sized pattern pieces, full-color photos and extra tips & tricks to encourage your creativity!

You can purchase the SoChick! Market Tote Sewing Pattern HERE

The GiveAway:
I would love for you to help spread the word about my Sewing Patterns!  My goal is to sell 25 of my SoChick! Market Tote Sewing Pattern by Memorial Day... remember, it's on SALE.  Once this pattern's sales reach twenty-five, everyone who has purchased a pattern from 1-25, and beyond (though Memorial Day), will be entered into a random drawing to WIN a FREE SoChick! Market Tote Bag Making Kit.

My Bag Making Kits include all of the yardage, interlinings and hardware needed to complete the corresponding pattern.  The winner will have their pick from the Blush Blossom or Azure Kits.

I think that's a pretty great deal, don't you: Buy the pattern on sale, get a chance to win a free kit?!

As a bonus, if you or your friends purchase the SoChick! Market Tote Sewing Pattern, leave a comment on SoChick's Facebook page telling me that you bought it, and have your friends tag you if they bought it from your recommendation... I may be inclined to do something super nice for my top sewing pattern referrer.

This journey gets better and better, thank you for joining me!  My heart is SO freaking happy!!! XxOo.

*GiveAway Deets: The GiveAway will become active once Twenty Five (25) SoChick! Market Tote Patterns are sold in my Craftsy Shop.  Sales beyond the initial twenty five will be included in the giveaway; all sales will be numbered in the order received.

Sale and GiveAway will run through Memorial Day, ending at 3:00AM EST on May 29th (this gives the west-coast gals a chance to get in on it till midnight their time.. *wink*).

I will enter the total number of sales into a Random number generator and announce the winner here on the blog no later than June 1st!  I will also contact the winner via their PayPal email address used to purchase the Sewing Pattern.  For everyone's protection, your email address will not be shared.

Meet Quilter & Fabric Designer Pat Bravo! [Featured Site & A GiveAway]

Pin It
Busy, busy, busy, getting the shop ready to re-open; meeting several speed bumps along the way which are slowing me down, but that's never stopped me before; I'm determined.  I get excited every time I step back and look at what's cookin' for the Shop re-opening on Monday, January 30th... Save the date!

* * *

Today, I'm sharing another [Featured Site] from the list over to the right.  This quilter and fabric designer's patterns and use of color, oooh the colors, make me swoon... not to mention I daydream of all the lovelyness I could stitch up with such beautiful fabric.

Today's featured site is Quilter and Fabric Designer Pat Bravo!

Visit Pat Bravo on Facebook!

When you first land at Pat Bravo's website you are immediately captured by its beautiful design, browse around a bit and you'll learn that Pat is from Buenos Aires, learned to sew when she was 9, moved to the US in 1989, is a self-taught quilter, fabric & sewing pattern designer, and owner of Art Gallery Fabrics (with her Husband)... whew!  Inspiring? I think, Yes!

Some of Pat Bravo's fabulous fabric [via]

I love Pat's fresh prints and use of color (the pops of color in her collections are nothing short of fantabulous!)... I especially love that her site is filled with inspiration as well as Free Projects:

Every time I look through the fabric collections and projects, I find myself adding something else to my "to-sew" list; when reading Pat's Bio and visiting her Facebook page, you can really feel her passion for what she does and I ♥ that!

I am super happy to tell you that Pat Bravo has been generous enough to share a taste of her lovely fabric with one lucky SoChick! reader, by way of a Free Fat Quarter! (You can use your FQ to make a small accessory, add it to a scrappy quilt, or fall deeply in love with Pat's fabrics and feed your addiction by buying a whole FQ Bundle to make an entire Pat Bravo quilt, using one of her Free Projects of course... Probably this is what I would do, seeing as there is always a good reason to buy more fabric!)

Product Review & A GiveAway! [MyMemories Digital Scrapbooking Software]

Pin It
**UPDATE: I HAVE EXTENDED THIS GIVEAWAY TILL 11:59PM EST FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 2nd***

It has been a long weekend and were are still without power from Hurricane Irene, but so fortunate that our home is free of major damage as well as my Dad's house on the coast.  Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by Irene, all along the east coast.

I am so happy to bring you this GiveAway today, especially after this weekend's events!

As the Mommy of two little chickies, I have tons and tons of photos, as you can imagine.  Being in the digital age, a lot of my daughters' pictures are stored on disks that I always say I am going to print so that I may, one day, put them in a scrapbook.  Unfortunately, the idea of scrapbooking is a little daunting to me as I worry about all of the supplies I'd need to buy just to get started and the time involved.  I love to sew and can justify my fabric stash, but have a hard time justifying all of the cute accessories for scrapbooking... go figure, right?

Imagine my surprise, and delight, when I was offered the opportunity to try Digital Scrapbooking Software by www.MyMemories.com!  I will admit that I was skeptical at first... "When am I going to have time to learn this software?", "After learning how to use the software, how long will it take to make anything that looks decent?"... no worries, this program is SO Easy!!

After downloading the MyMemories Suite Software directly from their site I was able to start building my digital scrapbook:

The software comes pre-loaded with templates and you literally drag and drop your photos into the pre-designed template.  But Wait, you can also add elements to an existing template from their online shop or print the page you have made and add your own flair with traditional scrapbooking supplies!

I also have used the software to make the product photo collage from last week's post:

Here's the best part... I am Giving Away one version of the MyMemories Suite Scrapbooking Software to One lucky SoChick! reader!! (Valued at $39.95!)

Mandatory Entry:

*Visit www.MyMemories.com and come back here to leave a comment about your favorite digital scrapbooking kit.

Additional Entries (leave one comment for each!)

*Follow MyMemories Blog
*Like MyMemories on Facebook
*Follow MyMemories on Twitter

This GiveAway will be open until Friday, September 2nd at 11:59pmEST... I will draw a winner with Random.org.

**Can't wait till Friday?! Head over to www.MyMemories.com and use this unique coupon code STMMMS4748 to Save $10 on your purchase of the MyMemories Suite Software (V.2) and $10 on your MyMemories store purchase (A $20 Savings!!)...  P.S. Their kits are so reasonably priced, this code will be a steal!

Good Luck!!
